 WHY THIS WORKS

Why Designers Use This Agreement

A well-written agreement helps:

🛡 Defines scope and responsibilities

🛡 Clarifies payment expectations

🛡 Documents project requirements

🛡 Creates accountability

🛡 Reduces misunderstandings

🛡 Supports a more professional process

When everyone understands their role, projects become easier to manage.

This is for you if:

You regularly hire tradespeople or contractors

You coordinate outside labor for client projects

You want a more professional project process

You want written documentation instead of verbal agreements

You want stronger project organization

This is not for you if:

You never hire tradespeople or contractors

You expect legal advice specific to your state

You are unwilling to customize the agreement for each project

You prefer relying solely on verbal agreements

A Note From John

Strong Boundaries Create Better Projects.

After more than 15 years of running my design firm, I've learned that many project problems begin long before the work starts.

They begin when expectations are unclear.

Years ago, I hired a cabinetry maker for a client project based largely on verbal agreements and conversations. During production, different materials were used than what we had originally discussed. By the time the cabinetry was installed in the client's home, the particle board components began warping and failing.

The client was understandably unhappy, and because expectations hadn't been documented clearly enough, I found myself responsible for resolving issues that could have been prevented from the beginning.

That experience taught me a valuable lesson.

The goal isn't to prepare for conflict.

The goal is to prevent it.

Today, every contractor, fabricator, installer, and trade partner I work with signs a written agreement that clearly outlines responsibilities, expectations, and project requirements before work begins.

This agreement is based on the same type of process I've relied on in my own business, now simplified and ready for you to use.
